World Cooling Day is January 23rd

Global warming. Everyone knows that it's bad, yet nothing is being done about it. Sure, there have been highly sophisticated lobby groups, hard-hitting documentaries, even blockbuster Hollywood movies set in the future, but still there is too much talk and not enough action. Mankind has spent too long sitting idly by and watching the world go to pot. That's why I propose a day where we actively try to cool down the world!

Here's how it works, on January 23rd, we need to do everything we can to lower the temperature of the earth. So we leave all our refrigerators and freezers open, we need to turn our air conditioning up and open all our doors, and we need to put all our fans on their highest speed setting. The delicious cool air will flow out into the streets, lowering temperatures worldwide.

The best thing about the human race is that even though individually we may not mean much, together we can make a huge difference. It's time to take that power and use it to help the planet. It's counting on us.

Guyhawke, there is a time and a place for internet dating. This is not it.

Good to see some action on this front! Every effort will help, and such an idea as this will tap into the public conscience quickly.

Ultimately, like most problems, this one could also be remedied using comets. Anti-comet propaganda in the form of movies such as 'Armageddon' has blinded our society to the potential benefits of comets. Comets are made of ice. Ice! Ice is cold, and so a program of comet-redirection to the Earth could also reduce global warming.

But sadly such foresight is lacking these days. Sam deserves congratulations for his forward-thinking.

I realise this is a joke, but this doesn't work even in theory. It's basic thermodynamics: When a refrigerator cools something down, that heat doesn't magically disappear - it gets vented out the back in the form of warm air. You are better off simply turning off your cooling appliances and saving the energy.

OK, so we know the actions suggested will actually heat up the planet. And a World Cooling Day is definitely a good idea. Maybe the agenda here is to confuse the masses and pocket the profits to be made by the immediate consumption of all possible sources of energy. Or perhaps this is an undercover moral crusade by the Society for the Promotion of Consumption. Is it a conspiracy, or is this a rare chance for us to laugh at ourselves? Let's be cool, whatever it takes.
